Artist Statement
> Technical notes: All sounds on this recording are acoustic, i.e., no electronics/effects or overdubs. ‘Clamour’ was performed with circular breathing and uses extended technique to create multiphonics. ‘Shimmer’ was performed using a homemade resonating sound device (an old cookie tin). ‘Glimmer Glammer’ is a sound-collage piece performed by manipulating various materials in the left hand while playing trumpet (with multiple extended techniques) with the right hand.
> Personal notes: Why make a solo trumpet recording? For me, playing music with other people is often a very joyful experience. Playing solo trumpet, however, is not only excruciatingly challenging in various ways, but it can also be incredibly humbling. Though I had been threatening to make a solo recording earlier, I was motivated to finally move forward with the project after my friend and collaborator, the brilliant and deeply inspiring musician Justin Haynes, passed away suddenly in 2019 at the age of 46. The process of composing, conceptualizing, and recording the music for this project in the period following his death gave me something concrete to focus on and was a kind of therapeutic journey. Justin and I had been hoping to do a second experimental ‘Glamour Nails’ recording project together, but his untimely passing put an end to that possibility. I dedicate this solo project to Justin’s memory.
> A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who helped me realize this project: Fedge for recording me at point-blank range in his mastering studio at Union Sound; my brother Luigi for the beautiful cover artwork he created for this project; and Yesim Tosuner for graphic design/layout.
Thank you for listening.

I heard this musician played with Jandek... is Sterling a reference? This album definitely helps you get into the weirdest cubby of the lower stratum, as Bakhtin would say! thenewspaper
